Ski Joering – a 100% natural snowsport
How do you update a traditional activity? In Les Arcs, a big fan of horse riding and skiing devised specific equipment so that all skiers could have a go.
Jacques Fillietroz, a ski patroller in Les Arcs, has “re-invented” Ski Joering. His invention, a semi-rigid harness, means you can be pulled along on your skis by a horse across all types of terrain and at all speeds in total safety.
The resort of Les Arcs has turned a series of forest trails into over 20km of Ski Joering routes in a natural environment of rare beauty.
From now on, Jacques Fillietroz will be spending all his time on this activity, which attracts more and more aficionados every year. In 2008, his riding centre was designated as a national training site by the French Horse riding Federation.
