Les Arcs Bourg Saint Maurice benefits from more than 250 km of walking trails, at the heart of a breath-taking landscape, and widely diverse scenery. You can admire the local wildlife, appreciate the peace and quiet and gain some altitude. On this page you will find 5 walks that will make your holiday into an unforgettable experience.

From Arc 2000 all the way to the Notre Dame des Vernettes chapel, this balcony path cuts across the les Arcs and Peisey-Vallandry slope. Between mountains of all sizes, forests and Alpine meadows, this very sunny route is open onto the valley and offers an uninterrupted view from the Italian Alps to the Belledonne Chain. The Notre Dame des Vernettes sanctuary is dominated by the Aiguille Rousse, the Aiguille Grive and the Pointe de l’Aliet.

Guided tours of the chapel on application in tourist offices.

   Level: Easy
Start: Arc 1600 or Arc 1800
Time: 2 to 3 hours (depending on where you start)

The natural location of les Chapieux and the Vallée des Glaciers is a meeting point between the Beaufortain, the Mont Blanc Massif and the Tarentaise, a strategic position between France and Italy. Situated on the legendary « Tour du Mont Blanc », this is a route of long walks and gentle strolls and offers magnificent scenery including preserved alpine meadows and the vastness of the glaciers… A real ode to escapism! To preserve this protected site, vehicles are not permitted on the road between Les Chapieux and the Ville des Glaciers. Buses, for which there is a fare, run during the months of July and August. They connect Bourg Saint Maurice, Les Chapieux and the Ville des Glaciers. The times can be consulted in tourist offices and on our walking page.

   Level: Easy
   Start: Les Chapieux
   Time: 2 hours

On the heights of Arc 2000, this walk will take you to the lakes in the upper part of the area. With family or friends, you will follow an easy path along  which the scenery changes at each new lake. Lac de l’Homme, lac des moutons, lac Marlou...
Along the way, you will come across our favourite mountain residents, the young (and chubby) marmots, who live in the Arc 2000 sector, and the cows in the Alpine meadows!

  Level: Medium
  Start: Arc 2000
  Time2 hours

Gain a little altitude and you’ll be able to walk along one of the loveliest lakeside trails. You will be amazed by it from the very start. An ancient fort overlooks the valley and alpine meadows full of goats and tarine cows and a panoramic view over the les Arcs area stretches before you... fantastic, isn’t it?

This walk will take your through a mountain landscape at the heart of which there remain 5 glacial lakes.

You have a choice of starting points. The walk begins at the Fort de la Platte (also known as Fort 2000). The more energetic can start from Bourg-Saint-Maurice.

  Level: Difficult
Start: Fort de la Platte (Bourg Saint Maurice)
