In summer, the cows take it easy up in the mountains. The grass at altitude is much better than in the valley, so why not make the most of it ? It’s why our Savoyard cheeses are so good. The herds go up to their Alpine pastures at the beginning of summer and stay there until the start of autumn.
Every summer for several generations, Delphin has been going to the heights of Arc 2000 with his cows and every summer you can meet this big-hearted farmer who will tell you all about his work, his passion and his daily life. During the visit, you will be able to watch tommes de Savoie being made and look round the cellar where the cheeses mature. Visiting an Alpine pasture is to understand how humankind and farming have shaped the mountains and how human activity lives alongside the natural world that surrounds us.
Remember to take clothes and footwear suited to the mountains as well as sunglasses, sun cream and a camera.
On site sales. Reservation essential in one of our tourist offices.
This summer, come and explore the paradise where these lovely russet cows live and discover Beaufort is made. On the programme for this Alpine pasture tour: meet at Bourg Saint Maurice station for a bus ride up to the cormet de Roselend where a hundred tarine cows will be grazing. Watch the cows being milked and chat to the farmers about their daily lives, cheese-making, how an Alpine pasture operates and more.
The tour is followed by a snack in a chalet a little way from the Alpine pastures, then you can look round the cellar where the enormous meules or rounds of Beaufort can be found! Sales and tasting on site.
Remember to bring warm and waterproof clothes in case of bad weather and a pair of walking boots as well as sunglasses, sun cream and a camera.
Reservation essential before 6.00 pm the previous day in one of our tourist offices.
