The Funicular ascent

April 26th 2025

To celebrate the end of the winter season, you can challenge yourself for 6 hours by completing the maximum number of climbs on a 5.1 km course with 817m of D+. Take up the challenge on foot, on a signposted path from Bourg Saint Maurice to the funicular arrival station at Arc 1600.

Elite runners, competitors, leisure runners, families... there's something for everyone, with entertainment throughout the day. A friendly event not to be missed.

THE PRINCIPLE

The principle is simple: in 6 hours, make as many ascents as possible on foot between Bourg Saint Maurice and Arc 1600. The descent is by funicular.

The Montée Du Funi is a 6-hour non-stop free pace race, most of which takes place on mountain trails. It is run semi-autonomously. Only the climbs are timed. At the summit, the stopwatch stops at the finish line marked by the timing mat. Waiting and descent times are not counted. The funicular runs continuously and the journey itself takes 7 to 11 minutes depending on the stops. Competitors in the race must reach the finish line within the 6:00:00 time limit to have their last ascent timed. The winner will be the one who has completed the greatest number of climbs in the least time.

THE RACES

+ On the 5.1 km course for 6 hours - over 18s :

- Solo: Each runner must complete as many climbs as possible over 6 hours, the descent being made by funicular from Les Arcs 1600 - from the Junior category upwards
