The new classification criteria for Tourist Offices, in force since 1 July 2019, have been simplified and now have two categories incorporating greater flexibility over opening hours, the option of paperless tourist information and greater competence in the required spoken languages.
The Tourist Office was granted category 1 classification in December 2019 for 5 years.
The classification of Tourist Offices ensures cohesion and homogeneity in the services offered by Tourist Offices to visitors to the various holiday destinations in France.
Below are the principal commitments of Tourist Offices according to their category:
• providing easily accessible reception and information areas,
• providing a holiday adviser and issuing quality information,
• simplifying procedures for tourists,
• providing free information on local tourist attractions,
• a commitment to an internal quality initiative,
• handling complaints and measuring tourist satisfaction.
The aim is to review and modernise the classification scales, so they are better suited to tourists’ expectations, and to take account of new digital practices. It also involves simplifying the administrative procedure by reducing the number of criteria and making them more objective.
There is an increased requirement for local amenities in tourist resorts to improve tourist facilities in these destinations of excellence.
