If you would like to come on holiday in les Arcs, but you don’t want to leave your dog in kennels, that’s fine. Our dog friends are welcome in les Arcs ! We have a few pieces of advice for you to get the most out of your mountain holidays with your dog without getting fed up with wondering every day where you’re going to take him for a walk in peace.
Where to walk ?
All the walks in Bourg Saint Maurice and Les Arcs can be used with a dog. However, we recommend that you keep them on leads.
Our canine friends are not allowed in the Vanoise National Park, even on leads.
Take care if you go near a mountain pasture with livestock protected by a sheep dog. We advise you to keep your dog on the lead and not to pick him up. This will stop him causing the sheep dogs to take dissuasive action as you approach the livestock.
Can I use the ski lifts ?
You can use certain lifts with your dog: funiculaire, Transarc, Varet, Cabriolet, Dahu and Villards… and dogs go free !
Dogs aren't allowed at the top of the Aiguille Rouge.
If you’ve finally decided to bring Rover with you for your holidays in les Arcs, we have one last piece of advice for you, … In the mountains and in the resort, make sure you pick up your dog’s mess to keep the mountain clean! Bags are available to you in the resort, make good use of them ;)
Where to walk?
Here are several routes you can take to stretch your and your dog’s legs:
- Arc 1600 : Chemin du canal. A path under the trees in the forest which transforms into a proper fairyland when the fresh snow sits on the branches of the surrounding trees. Take care as you will come across dogs pulling sleds and horses engaged in ski joëring, so keep your dog on the lead in this sector.
- Arc 1800 : Chemin de Bellecôte. On this path leading all the way to Arc 1600, a view over the valley opens up behind the snowcovered fir trees and little chalets with pointed roofs stick up through the forest canopy.
- Arc 2000 : Lac de la Vallée de l’Arc. At the edge of the ski area, the path runs alongside the frozen lake regularly decorated with works of “snow art” by Simon Beck.
If you would like to go snowshoeing with a guide or a group, ask the guides directly if dogs are accepted (notably by the people who will be with you on the trails).
Can I use the ski lifts ?
You can use certain lifts with your dog: funiculaire, Dahu, Cabriolet and Villards… without the need for a ticket !
Please note that dogs are not allowed on the pistes.
