Having developed the Aiguille Rouge panoramic walkway, which offers a 360o view over alpine peaks and the Hauts de Villaroger National Nature Reserve, the ski area is continuing to invest in upgrading this iconic attraction.
The aim of this wide-ranging project is to provide skiers and non-skiers with easy access to these outstanding panoramic views in both winter and summer.
The transformation of the Aiguille Rouge began in September 2018 by giving its cabins a completely new look. The cabins swapped their orange and white livery for a smart bright red. While the appearance has changed, the capacity remains the same.
At the same time, work began to build a walkway over the void at the top of the glacier. This 360° walkway offers a panoramic view over French and Italian Alpine peaks, the Upper Tarentaise Valley and the Hauts de Villaroger nature reserve.
The bottom station of the Aiguille Rouge, unique of its kind for its external architecture, will be completely repainted in black. Wide glazed panels will also be installed to allow light into the centre of the building.
The Varet’s cabins and top and bottom stations are also being refreshed for the coming winter. The cabins and stations will be covered in a new black livery, an elegant design in harmony with the new look of the Aiguille Rouge station.
The final finishing touch to the transformation of the Aiguille Rouge… The building of a Tyrolean slide! In December 2020, the roof of the Varet’s cabin shed will be developed to provide a panoramic solarium, a café and the start of a sensational Tyrolean slide over the course of the Flying Kilometre piste.
AN ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PROJECT
The Aiguille Rouge walkway has been designed and built in conjunction with the Hauts de Villaroger National Nature Reserve with a view to limiting the impact on the flora and fauna in this area.
A means of informing visitors and raising their awareness has been set up across the whole area.
This project will also enable the ski area to develop its renewable energy system through the installation of solar panels on the Aiguille Rouge and Varet stations.
