The competition

Les Arcs is launching the first "Design Me the Mountain of Tomorrow" competition.

The competition is part of our drive to create a new model for mountain tourism by inviting our visitors to go beyond skiing and discover a magnificent natural area, a source of rejuvenation and a way of reconnecting with nature.

The theme of the 2023 edition: Imagining a space for enhanced contemplation

Candidates will have to come up with a design that invites contemplation in the mountains and encourages mediation between our customers and Nature.

In an outdoor setting, in a defined area, the design project will have to propose equipment and a usage scenario that encourages our visitors to interact with the environment and allows the user to feel in harmony with it.

The aim of the competition is to get off the beaten track and come up with an outdoor project that invites you to take a break and experience the thrill of the altitude.

This is the micro-adventure spirit we're aiming for: an outdoor experience of limited duration that allows you to make progress and has a minimum impact on the environment.

This project should also be seen as an opportunity for Les Arcs to have a positive influence on each of the millions of visitors we receive.

To amaze in order to raise awareness.

Success lies in the ability to design a proposal centred on nature, which, as a secondary function, can be a vehicle for raising awareness of the challenges of climate change.

Projects that incorporate an enriched use of the facility in all seasons will be greatly appreciated. One of our future challenges is to develop our appeal all year round, not just during the winter and summer seasons.

The students' creations can take a variety of forms, depending on their creativity: furniture elements, ephemeral or 'hard' structures, scenic spaces, equipment to support an experience, etc.

Constraints

- The installation must not exceed a floor area of 40m2,
- The design and use of student projects must take into account the climatic conditions inherent in the mountains: cold, wind, snow, etc.
- Similarly, student projects should take into account the context in which our visitors will be viewing their creations: sometimes in ski boots and outfits, during their holidays, so in a time that is conducive to playful, dreamlike, experiential activities, etc.
