Located between France and Italy, the Chapieux Valley is a regular crossroads between Tarentaise, Beaufortain and the Mont Blanc massif.

It is one of the highest places where pastoral life exists on the route of the famous Tour du Mont Blanc.

With its numerous avalanche corridors, the Glaciers Valley is inaccessible in winter. Rich in history, it is repopulated in spring by the herds of goats and Tarine cows typical of Savoyard Alpine meadows. Numerous hiking routes enable hikers to discover fine panoramic views over the Aiguille des Glaciers, the Mont Blanc Massif, the Tarentaise Valley and the Vanoise Massif.

Amongst the many paths to be explored is that of the Robert Blanc refuge, a walk in a splendid setting at the foot of the Aiguille des Glaciers.

To safeguard this protected site, vehicle access is prohibited (between Les Chapieux and la Ville des Glaciers).

Buses, for which there is a charge, run during summer. It is possible to set out from Bourg Saint Maurice Times here.

Hiking in the Vallée des Chapieux :

This valley of protected mountain pastures surrounded by glaciers is an ideal place for family walks and hikes. One of the many trails to discover is the Robert Blanc Refuge, where you can make your way through an imposing setting at the foot of the Aiguille des Glaciers. Keep an eye out for marmots along the way.

To protect this protected site, vehicle access is not permitted (between Les Chapieux and Ville des Glaciers).

Don't rely on your GPS to find your way, and don't expect to be able to make your most important calls, as you'll find yourself in a white zone with no network.
