A NEW LEASE OF LIFE!
The renaturation of Le Charbonnet aims to restore moving waters to this torrent, which was previously channelled and once feared for its overflows.
In 2025, Le Charbonnet recovered a more winding course and a natural morphology, with varied depths and flow speeds.
No more homogenised habitats or downstream flood risks: the free movement of sediments and species is now possible. Brown trout are regaining spawning grounds to reproduce.
The wetlands recreated on both sides are welcoming new species. They can recharge groundwater tables and act like a sponge, helping to contain floods from the nearby Versoyen.
Today, ecological restoration works seek to recreate natural watercourses to better manage flood risks.
